COURSE OUTLINE
The Course covers the essential requirements for those wishing to transport dangerous goods by road (ADR). Drivers of vehicles carrying dangerous goods must hold a Driver Training Certificate issued by the competent authority The Health and Safety Authority. CILT is the examining body for the ADR Driver Training Certificate appointed by the Health and Safety Authority (HSA).
The certificate states that, they have participated in a training course and passed an examination on the particular requirements that have to be met during carriage of dangerous goods.
Drivers of vehicles carrying dangerous goods must attend a basic training course. Training is be given in the form of a course approved by the competent authority. Assessment

Online Exams Papers are provided in English only. Duration of ADR basic exam: 1 hour / Duration of tanker specialisation exam: 1 hour
Online ADR Basic Exam consists of 36 multiple choice questions divided into three (3) sections, A, B and C.
Online ADR Tanker Specialisation exam: Total of 24 multiple choice questions divided into TWO (2) sections, A and B
Each section contains 12 questions:
➘ Overall pass-mark - 24 Basic / 16 Tanker or higher, at least 8 out of 12 in each section.
➘ Candidates - Basic and Tanker at one sitting must pass the Basic before the Tanks specialisation can be awarded i.e.
failing Basic and passing Tanks exam will not qualify for a certificate.
➘ Tanks exam is held in credit for a limited time until the basic exam is passed.
➘ An initial candidate who fails an examination may not re-sit the examination before a period of 7 days has elapsed
and must re-sit the examination within a 12-month period of the date of completing the relevant training course.
The candidate may re-sit the exam repeatedly within this time frame.
Time-frame for Sitting the Exam after Training
Candidates who have attended an approved course must sit the associated examination within 6 months of their course.
A candidate attending a refresher course must sit and pass the associated examinations before the expiry date on their current certificate. Otherwise, after that date a candidate for examination must attend a full initial Basic (3 day) and/or Basic / Tanker (5 day) course before being allowed to sit the examination again.
Accreditation
Full certification on successfully completing your exam will be issued by the HSA & CILT in the new format of the Driver Training Certificate.
